As many of you know, I went to school for journalism. As a requirement, all students have to present a senior project. This project consists of whatever the student decides to pursue for the semester. Deciding what I was going to pursue for the semester and present was a very hard decision. Blogging has always been a passion of mine, I started blogging at 10 years old. I was hesitant to pick this as my senior project because my peers chose some hard-hitting topics. For example, abuse in nursing homes and crime photojournalism. I felt although presenting Miss. True Class did not have the same amount of substance. After some convincing from my mentor and mom, I decided that I would give it my all.
My grandmother, cousin, and mother came to support me. I was so happy and felt confident speaking about Miss. True Class because this is my passion.
The Hello Kitty book, you see me holding is where I first started blogging. I put a little sticker on the front that says, “Beauty tips & tricks.” I wrote down everything in this book! How to get shiny hair, recipes, how to look good in pictures, etc. You name it, I wrote about it!
This was my first time sharing Miss. True Class with non-family and friends. I did not share my blog with many people because I feel beauty, fashion, and lifestyle blogging is not taken seriously. A lot of people just see it as playing in hair and makeup all day, shopping, and taking pictures when it’s so much more than that. Ever since I was a little girl, this has always been something I wanted to do. I just never knew the name.
Worrying about what other people think has always held me back in life. I never pursued my dreams full force because I was always scared of what my peers would think. At 21, I have finally gained the confidence to be myself and live in my truth. I love myself, and I love the work that I do. I truly believe I was given this platform, voice, and writing skills to help lots of women all over the world, and that’s what I will continue to do for the rest of my life.
… Their response? They loved it.
Till next time,
Miss. True Class
